How to Sell More on Amazon Marketplace

It’s no surprise that Amazon has become a popular option for online retailers. With growing popularity amongst consumers, and endless options it has the potential to be a profitable business endeavour for sellers. With that being said, a new year is a new opportunity to get your name out there and make some money. Below are a few tips to help you make 2016 your best year yet!
Win the Buy Box!
The buy box is the closest thing to the Holy Grail for Amazon sellers. It’s important that you maintain your competitive edge by aiming to win the buy box. When multiple sellers can offer the same product, the buy box can be that edge you need to stand out.
The best area to compete for the buy box, and probably the most effective, would be price. This isn’t the easiest thing to do, but it is crucial to constantly monitor your competitor’s price in comparison with yours. Something as little as a cent could make the difference with your competition. FeedVisor and Teikametrics are good tools for this functionality.
Think about those Keywords
Now is the time to improve your SEO on your Amazon account. This is not to say stuff as many keywords as you can in your description. You obviously want to include them, but you certainly want to be strategic about it. With that being said, sellers should consider using the Amazon Keyword Tool. This could be a huge strategic advantage. Finally, the product title is where you want to include as many keywords as possible.
Reviews are key
Did you know that 88% of consumers trust online reviews as much as a personal recommendation (Search Engine Land)? That’s nearly 9 out of 10! Needless to say, your customer reviews are very important to your success on Amazon. We’re not saying beg for reviews, but if there are individuals who enjoyed your product, request that they write a review. A great tool to assist merchants in monitoring their feedback is FeedbackFive. Always remember, Amazon deeply considers your reviews when determining your position in the search rankings. In other words, these reviews matter so value them!
Marketing and advertising are still important
There are several options for marketing and advertising your product. Internally, you can invest in Amazon sponsored products. This gives you the opportunity to display your products in promoted areas of the page (down the right hand side for example). This is of course at a cost.
Alternatively, you should also consider methods outside of the marketplace. These can vary depending on your product and who your market is. Consider some of the following options:
  • PPC (eg. Google Adwords) for your eCommerce store
  • Content marketing that provides information and a value proposition for your product
  • An active presence on social media
  • Coupons or discounts in your packaging for the next potential purchase

Go for the pro!
What we mean is, register as a professional seller. Simply put, there are a quite a few benefits that could save and make you money with this decisions. For one, you not only save money on the commission but you can upload new items that are not yet listed on Amazon. For more information on the differences between the two accounts, read our blog post here.
FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon) is the only way!
FBA stands for Fulfilment by Amazon. It’s not for everyone, but it certainly removes a lot of the hard work of selling on Amazon. You can take on the work yourself and pack, label, and ship your items on your own if it works for you. However, if your orders exceed a certain point, you may not have the manpower to sustain it. That is when Amazon FBA is a good option.
