9 Black Friday facts (that are not true) #FakeNews

Thursday, August 24, 2017Lauren Macdonald There is no shortage of panic in the weeks and months leading up to Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Sellers everywhere are planning, re-planning, re-pricing, advertising and staying up late reading #fakenews because they just cant sleep. Baaahhh!

So, for those of you that are in the thick of this Black Friday prep, we'd like to bring you this funny 4-minute read about facts that are not true. (Not even a little.)

  1. On leap years, Black Friday doesn’t actually happen on a Friday.
  2. 40% of Operations, Marketing, and Finance Directors of the worlds' top eCommerce stores turn to Netflix, wine, or long walks on the beach on the eve of Black Friday pricing.
  3. Garth Cyberius Monday, best known for his work with the early internet, lends his name to the day people everywhere now call Cyber Monday.
  4. In the United States, 56% of those shopping in-store for Black Friday deals get in a fist fight. In Canada, 90% of Black Friday fights are over who tried to apologize first (and 41% will end up stuck in a continuous apology loop that will last for at least 3 days).
  5. North Americans have Cyber Monday, Chinese have Singles Day, and the British just have the Beatles (‘nuff said).
  6. To become more aerodynamic, logistic companies like FedEx, UPS, Amazon and Purolator fill their truck gas tanks with RedBull (the Sugarless kind).
  7. More people die from Black Friday shopping than from shark attacks (actually, this one may be true!).
  8. Due to packaging material shortages, some Amazon orders are delivered in old, unwashed pillowcases.
  9. New for 2017 Cyber Monday:  $12.00 Same day shipping and $2.99 dog walking service offered as options during checkout when opting for delivery by drone.
Thanks for laughing with us.  Good luck this holiday season!
